Summer is finally on the horizon. The rains have stopped, and the sun shines in all its glory. The temperatures are rising, and that unmistakable summer vibe is here.

When summer arrives, one of my favorite dishes to enjoy is Bećarac, a simple but flavorful mix of onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, spices, and eggs. It’s a little medley of ingredients, yet so rich in taste.

Today was a perfect family day. The kind of day made for Bećarac served on the terrace, basking in the warm sunlight. Alongside it, some homemade cheese, fresh cucumber salad, dried homemade sausage, and a bit of dried bacon. Simple, rustic, and absolutely delicious.

And to finish it all off? A scoop of ice cream and fresh lemonade.

Days like this feel like a dream. The perfect taste of summer and family togetherness.

@beatriztorijagmail-com Yes, exactly, it’s very similar to Spanish ratatouille! In fact, we have two versions of this kind of dish in our cuisine: one is Bećarac, which often includes eggs like you saw in my post, and the other is called Sataraš, where we don’t add eggs at all. Both are based on the same beautiful mix of vegetables – onion, peppers, tomato – but the presence (or absence) of eggs makes a big difference in taste and texture. I love how so many traditional dishes across cultures reflect each other in such delicious ways! 😊

I’m glad to hear you’re already enjoying the warm weather… If you can, please send some my way because I’m freezing over here 🥶 hahaha.
Lana, you always do such a wonderful job of conveying that summer warmth with family, and your dish reflects exactly that—simplicity, flavor, and tradition. The Bećarac looks full of color and texture, and the side of cured meats, cucumber, and cheese gives it a truly authentic homemade picnic feel.

One small suggestion you might consider to make the presentation stand out even more is to play a bit with the arrangement of the elements on the plate. For example, placing the Bećarac in the center and arranging the sides in a semicircle around it could create a more visually appealing composition that invites people to explore each part of the dish.

I loved how you wrapped it up with ice cream and fresh lemonade,so summery! What kind of cheese did you use? I’m curious to know if it was homemade too.

Thank you for continuing to share these beautiful stories and flavors—they’re so inspiring and bring us closer to cooking from the heart. ❤️

@undefined Thank you so much for your lovely words! 😊 I wish I could send some of this warm weather your way too.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful suggestion about the plating! Actually, this dish is more of a shared, casual style where everyone helps themselves rather than being individually plated. But I really like your idea and will definitely try that arrangement next time I make Bećarac.

As for the cheese, it’s homemade. Brought by aunt from the village, which makes it even more special and authentic.

I’m so glad the story and flavors come through . Cooking from the heart is exactly what I aim for, and sharing it with you all makes it even more special. 💞
